Kavita has won the bronze medal in 10,000 meters race at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the first individual track medal by an Indian woman athlete at the Games. She also won a silver medal in the same discipline at the Guangzhou Asian Games.
Hemant Sikka, senior vice-president, Manufacturing Operations, Automotive Division, M&M presented a cheque of Rs 2.5 lakh to Kavita and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to her coach Vijender.
Kavita said her aim is now to unfurl Indian flag at the 2012 Olympics.
Nashik Municipal Corporation also felicitated Kavita on Friday, where Mayor Naina Walzade and municipal commissioner Bhaskar Sanap handed her a cheque of Rs 5 lakh and citation and also honoured her coach and mentor Vijender with a cheque of Rs one lakh.
The corporation has decided to build up a long distance track in Nashik so that upcoming athletes like Kavita can practice instead of going out of the Nashik city.
