Former deputy mayor of Nashik Municipal Corporation and founder president of Una Pratishtan, Ajay Boraste, has been appointed as city unit chief of Shiv Sena.
Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray made the appointment yesterday on the directive of party chief Bal Thackeray.
During his tenure as deputy mayor, Mr Boraste undertook various projects in the city.
Speaking after his appointment, he said he would try hard to live upto the expectation of Uddhav Thackeray.
Upset over these appointments, the party activists gathered at different areas of the city including Shalimar chowk, Panchavati fountain, Shubham Park in CIDCO, and burnt the effigy of Mr Raut amidst sloganeering. They were angry because the young leaders have been appointed, instead of the seniors, police said.
However, police rushed to the spot to avoid any untoward incident. No one has been arrested in this connection.
