Incessant rains continued to lash Nashik district claiming one death, according to reports reaching here. The flooding water at Trimbakeshwar, about 29 kms from here, washed away a person, sources said. The district located in north Maharashtra has been experiencing heavy rains since Saturday thereby increasing the water level in dams and rivers across the district, the report said. With good spell of showers, farmers have begun their agricultural operations in Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar and other areas, the report added. Rains disrupt Pune-Mumbai traffic The heavy downpour since Saturday midnight has completely disrupted rail traffic between Pune and Mumbai. Heavy water-logging on the tracks and landslides in the ghats section have also considerably slowed down the movement of vehicles on the expressway. The Central Railway had to cancel a number of inter-city trains, including some on the Pune-Lonavla route, due to landslide between Lonavla and Karjat and water logging of tracks near Lonavla. Moreover, a few express trains were diverted via Daund and Manmad, though local trains between Pune and Talegaon were still running. A large number of passengers were reportedly stranded at various railway stations, many of them resorting to cool cabs, taxis, state transport buses and other private vehicles to continue their journey. |
